Emily and Jared are looking forward to celebrating the holidays together as a couple, and they prepare to work with their neighbors on Evergreen Lane to make this year's Christmas celebrations the best yet.  When a house on the block goes up for sale, the soon-to-be-neighbors are holiday royalty, but they are so competitive that they nearly ruin Christmas for everyone. Choosing a Career Path

Ella Dashwood is footloose and fancy free.  Her resume is long for such a young life because she craves adventure.  She and her best friend are known for working jobs long enough to earn money to travel and experience new things before landing back home to start the cycle all over again.  Sounds like a typical millennial to me!

Ella is finally settling into the party planning industry with her sister in their own business.  She's making mistakes, but she's learning the importance of ownership and personal responsibility.  When her BFF invites her to a screenwriting course, Ella declines, and it's a sign she's finally maturing and taking her role in the family business seriously.

Who do you know who hops from job to job, never seeming to find their niche?  At some point, we all need to nail down a career path, plant some roots, and create stability in our lives.  This journey takes longer for some than others.

Ella is very ambitious and has big plans for Dashworks.  She wants to expand the business--take on more clients and bigger events, offer decorating services, and more.  Her sister, Marianne, seems like a stick-in-the-mud who isn't on board with growing the company.  While Marianne appears content with the status quo, we later discover it's only because she's fearful Ella will bolt again and leave her holding the bag.

Once Ella gifts Marianne with a financial ledger and business plan to prove her commitment to their venture, Marianne relents so the two can forge ahead towards loftier goals.

In other words, baby sister grows up!

The Significance of the Movie Title

Did you catch the allusion to the Jane Austen classic novel in the title?  Published in 1811, Sense and Sensibility is a coming-of-age novel about two Dashwood sisters:  Elinor and Marianne.  In the novel, the older sibling is Elinor, who personifies common sense, and Marianne, prone to sensibility, is the emotional one.

Hallmark flipped the script, with Ella being the younger, impetuous character, and Marianne being the more practical and prudent one.

Plus, Hallmark includes a snowman because it has to be Christmas-y!

If you're interested in reading Austen's classic and have a Kindle, you can pick up a FREE copy with Kindle Unlimited!

The movie is currently still available on DVD as well.

A Very Playful Role for Erin Krakow

Erin Krakow shines in this movie because her character is fun, playful, and ads zest to everything she does.

Ella takes Edward, who is a very stuffed shirt initially, and helps him lighten up, even though it means taking risks his father, who has handed him the company reins, doesn't approve of initially (of course, Edward wins him over in the end!).  Plus, in trademark Hallmark style, Edward finds the Christmas spirit!

When Marianne realizes Ella plans to stick around and be serious about their business, she, too, relaxes, agrees to enhancing their services, and even lets herself fall in love with Brandon.
