REVIEW: The Hallmark Sequel "Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up" Is as Silly as the First One

Image
Emily and Jared are looking forward to celebrating the holidays together as a couple, and they prepare to work with their neighbors on Evergreen Lane to make this year's Christmas celebrations the best yet.  When a house on the block goes up for sale, the soon-to-be-neighbors are holiday royalty, but they are so competitive that they nearly ruin Christmas for everyone. Starring:   Lacey Chabert, Wes Brown, Stephen Tobolowsky, Ellen Travolta, Melissa Peterman, Seth Morris, and Jennifer Aspen Image:  Hallmark Media Haul Out the Holly:  Lit Up Has a Moral When the residents of Evergreen Lane learn that their new neighbors are the Jolly Johnsons--famous holiday reality stars--they are thrilled to welcome them to the block.  Everyone assumes the Johnsons will fit right in since they share their same affinity for elf culture. Emily, Jared, and the rest of the holiday crew quickly realize that the Johnsons aren't interested in joining in on the fun--they plan to take over. Image:  Tw

Hallmark's "Holiday Hearts" QUIZ!

Image
Starring:   Ashley Williams and Paul Campbell Released:   2019 Summary:   While planning an annual Christmas party, a woman is forced together with her ex to care for a friend's daughter. Image:  Crown Media, United States LLC Who Is Lisa Durupt? Not only does this movie feature two Hallmark fan favorites, Ashley Williams and Paul Campbell, it also includes my favorite supporting actress--Lisa Durupt. Durupt plays Olivia, Peyton Canaday's (Williams) newlywedded sister.  It seems Durupt always finds herself in a secondary role, usually playing the sister, as she has previously in other Hallmark movies, like Reunited at Christmas . Would anyone like to see Durupt in a leading Hallmark seasonal movie besides me? In Holiday Hearts , Olivia is always cooking for stress relief.  She's worried her husband won't make it home for Christmas, but it's Hallmark, so of course he makes it! Fun fact:  Durupt was a hockey player who received a scholarship in M

Christmas in Evergreen DVD Giveaway!

Image
Even for those of us who love Christmas and Hallmark movies in a BIG way, it's not quite the same once the holiday hoopla is over.  Decorations are stored away, retailers are stripped bare until March, and the radio has stopped streaming holiday music (hopefully, you're still listening at home!).  For those of us experiencing a mild winter, we don't even have snow to create the illusion of Christmas! Hallmark also makes us wait an entire week at a time to see a Christmas movie, unless you're still navigating through the ones on your DVR. Let's create our own magic by having a giveaway! Prize Up for grabs is a Hallmark fan favorite:  The original Christmas in Evergreen DVD. Remember in 2019's, Christmas in Evergreen:  Tidings of Joy , the town discovered a giant advent calendar time capsule to mark the 50th anniversary of the annual Christmas festival?   The object of this contest is to decide what YOU would put in a time capsule, knowing it

Hallmark's Christmas at Graceland: Home for the Holidays--A Pleasant Surprise!

Image
Image:  Crown Media, United States LLC Starring:  Kaitlin Doubleday and Adrian Grenier, with Priscilla Presley Released:  2019 Summary:  After working in museums all over Europe, a world traveler decides to head home to Memphis for the holidays and chooses to take on a job being a nanny for a wealthy widower. My Rating:  3/5 Christmas Trees 🎄🎄🎄 Who's Adrian Grenier? Christmas in Graceland:  Home for the Holidays  stayed on my DVR for a long while because I fully expected it to be a dud. I made this empirical judgment based on Adrian Grenier (Owen) not fitting the leading man profile in my head. He has dreamy eyes, but his "look" reminds me of a caricature.  Tons of hair, bushy eyebrows, and around-the-clock shadow on a thin frame, combined with his gentle mannerisms and even-toned voice, does not make for a commanding movie presence. Turns out, he complements Kaitlin Doubleday's (Harper) strong character quite nicely.  Her star power helps him a

Check Out Hallmark's "Check Inn to Christmas"

Image
Starring:  Rachel Boston and Wes Brown  Released:  2019 Summary:  A lawyer goes back to her family's inn near the Rocky Mountains for the holidays, and she finds herself caught in the middle of an old feud with a rival inn.  However, both families must unite to save their inns from a chain resort. Image:  Crown Media Same Story, Different Twist Hallmark has bombarded us with movies where our leading couple must unite to save X from Y .  The variables change, but it's the same story--save the town, save the family business, save the program, save the tree lot from the corporate takeover, the real estate acquisition, the shiny new business in town..... In Check Inn to Christmas , two rival inns risk losing their century-old businesses when a chain resort, Edgestone, targets Crestridge, Colorado's, overlooked and underdeveloped properties. Wes Brown and Rachel Boston star in Check Inn to Christmas. Image: Crown Media When Eddy agrees to sell his pub to Ed

Hallmark's "Christmas In Evergreen: Tidings of Joy" Another Magical Installment

Image
Starring:  Maggie Lawson and Paul Greene  Released:  2019 Summary:  As the town searches for a rumored Christmas Time Capsule, a skeptical writer arrives in Evergreen on vacation to experience the renowned holiday cheer. Image:  Crown Media, United States LLC Who remembers Maggie Lawson from the detective show Psych that aired from 2006-2014?  She played a detective in the Santa Barbara police department and was the love interest of "psychic" detective, Shawn Spencer.  For the duration of the series, the two were an item in real life, but their relationship died with the show. It is refreshing to see her in Christmas In Evergreen:  Tidings of Joy , since she is not part of Hallmark's regular, rotating cast. Another Story About A Writer The Hallmark lineup has been saturated with stories about writers.  Apparently, researching other professions to incorporate into the script isn't in the budget. Not only is Katie Connell (Maggie Lawson) a

Hallmark's A Christmas Miracle: A Story About Doing the Right Thing

Image
Starring:   Tamera Mowry-Housley and Brooks Darnell Released:  2019 Summary:   When her boss steals her idea for their magazine's cover story, a woman searches for a Christmas miracle with the help of her son and the staff photographer. Image:  Crown Media, United States LLC Do You Have a Boss Like Emma's? Emma starts a new job in Denver as an executive assistant for Daily Lifestyle Magazine, even though she's overqualified for the position and would shine as a staff writer. Valerie, Emma's boss, is a critical tyrant.  She's cool, aloof, and difficult to please.  When the pressure increases for Valerie to produce a cover story that will be a page-turner, she becomes desperate.   Emma suggests doing a story about a Christmas miracle.  The Internet is filled with inspiring stories, so why not find a similar heart-warming tale from their own city to publish? Valerie's boss, Miss Hennessy, loves the concept, so Valerie keeps the cover story
